Voyager Homes
The HOME Competition 2021 entry
Oct. 2021 - Jan 2022
Life is an ongoing voyage in search of security and serenity. Voyager Homes, based on this philosophy, offers a housing typology comprising mobile hexagonal pods serving as essential living spaces. Components of varying lengths and purposes can be flexibly purchased, arranged, and changed to suit users' preferences. Encased within a self-driving vehicle shell, the pod serves as a "spiritual suitcase" throughout their journey.
Board A
Users select the types and sizes of units needed and assemble them into a singular dwelling.
Board B
These mobile dwellings can be expanded and connected to a larger complex as needed. At these times, users would have access to a larger space until the end of their reservation period.
Board C
The diagram illustrates the array of unit types available for users to reserve and connect their Voyager Homes onto.
The interiors of these modules can be customized to the user's aesthetic preferences, allowing for comfort despite limited physical space.
The system of Voyager Homes reduces housing wealth inequalities by standardizing essential living spaces, making homeownership more accessible. Residences become public resources, reservable by users when larger spaces are needed temporarily, with extension options varying from luxurious to modest. Additionally, shared housing reduces energy waste from often-unoccupied properties, while mobile homes decrease the need for new constructions, promoting more green space within urban areas.
